JOHN APPELL
PARTNER
John Appell has been practicing law since 1985 and has been the managing partner of his firm since 1988. He is currently partnered with Robert Parrinelli at Appell & Parrinelli.
Early in his career, John Appell worked with several civil attorneys and has tried a wide breadth of personal injury, medical malpractice, and commercial cases. For over 35 years, he has specialized in plaintiff’s personal injury law as well as general and complex litigation with a concentration on medical malpractice, labor law, products liability, wrongful death, construction, commercial and property and casualty matters. He is frequently called upon by fellow attorneys to serve as trial counsel on cases of high exposure.
Mr. Appell has been recognized as being among the top 5% of trial lawyers in New York after having been elected to "Super Lawyers”. He has successfully settled and taken verdicts in thousands of cases, including having prosecuted several dozen with multi-million dollar settlements.
Among the highest profile include the following:
- Infant burn (Kings County Supreme Court) $6.5 million settlement. One of the highest settlements against the City for that calendar year reached on the eve of a verdict.
- Commercial food contamination (Federal Court-Southern District of New York), $6.5 million verdict.
- Construction accident (Bronx County Supreme Court), $5 million verdict.
Mr. Appell prides himself on his ability to obtain significant recoveries on challenging cases, many of which had previously been rejected by other attorneys. He is enthusiastic, tenacious, and dedicated to serving his clients and his practice.
Mr. Appell graduated from Adelphi University with a B.S. in Biology and Chemistry and with a J.D. from St. John's University School of Law. Before practicing law, Mr. Appell was employed with a large pharmaceutical company in both sales and clinical research where he developed a background in medicine and pharmacy. He is admitted to practice before all New York State Courts, the U. S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the U. S. Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit. He is an active member of several professional organizations including the New York State Trial Lawyers, New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers, and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
ROBERT PARRINELLI
PARTNER
Robert Parrinelli has been practicing law since 2004. He began his law career as an associate trial attorney supporting John Appell. Soon thereafter they became partners, ultimately renaming the firm Appell & Parrinelli.
Mr. Parrinelli has dedicated his career to representing parties who have been injured in all types of accidents including motor vehicle, premises, construction, products liability, wrongful death, commercial property and casualty and medical malpractice.
Mr. Parrinelli prides himself on taking on challenging cases in pursuit of justice and his client’s interests. He is passionate about his practice and extraordinarily dedicated to the injured parties he represents. He has proudly represented thousands of clients and obtained millions of dollars in settlements, verdicts and arbitration awards for his clients.
Outside of his law practice, Mr. Parrinelli mentors young athletes and lawyers. He is actively involved in coaching his four children in youth sports and is an avid runner who recently competed in and finished the New York City Marathon in support of the Travis Roy Foundation.
Mr. Parrinelli received his BBA in Business Management from Hofstra University and graduated from Hofstra University School of Law with a J.D. While an undergraduate student Mr. Parrinelli was a member of the Division One men's lacrosse team where he was a team captain as a senior.
Mr. Parrinelli is a member of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the New State Academy of Trial Lawyers. He is admitted to practice law in all of the Courts of the State of New York, District Courts of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York as well as the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
